The result is that Colin has kindly agreed to allow us to use high-res copies of his superb accident images on the site.   The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is the authoritative source of information on passenger and freight rail networks for the U.S. federal government. FRA provides geospatial resources to the public on rail networks, including data on grade crossings, Amtrak stations, and more.

Crossings are added to the program based on several factors including but not limited to: hazard index formulas, accident history, vehicular traffic, train traffic, school bus traffic, truck traffic, sight distance, consolidation opportunities, traffic/economic growth, and roadway conditions at a crossing. The Rail Division’s Rail Highway Section administers the Texas Highway/Rail Crossing Safety Program. Highway/rail crossing safety projects use federal Section funds that are appropriated at $15 million per year. Each public crossing for which lights and/or gates are requested will be evaluated.
